Reality Tv Winners Crowned

This week saw two very popular shows albeit the recent ratings will say differently crown winners. The Dancing With The Stars trophy went to NFL Wide Receiver, Donald Driver. At the very beginning I had picked Roshon Fegan (Disney’s Shake It Up) to win the mirror ball trophy but he didn’t even make it to the finals. The NFL has a good history with the Dancing With The Stars program with previous winners Emmitt Smith and more recently Hines Ward. You never know, we may see a Tim Tebow in the future depending on whether or not his popularity rises or falls in New York. Opera Singer, Katherine Jenkins and Cuban actor, William Levy came in second and third respectively which will only help boost their public images.

American Idol saw their finale despite it being the lowest rated one in history. Fox was happy to know that it dominated the social media platform despite the t.v. ratings. In the end it was Phillip Phillips who was declared the winner in an Idol season that I thought was ultimately going to end up with Jessica Sanchez celebrating a victory at the end. I was wrong with both predictions but this is part of the unpredictability of reality television or perhaps the predictability of a popularity contest.

Billboard Awards 2012

The 2012 Billboard Awards was filled with a mixture of dancing, tributes, the inevitable lip-synching, and don’t forget Miley Cyrus reminding Wiz Khalifa to thank Amber Rose during his acceptance speech. You know those big time  award shows where the most celebrated winner is not even at the event? Well that happened to be the Billboard Awards as Adele was not around to take home her twelve spectacular awards. We were left to see LMFAO, who were in attendance, nab six trophies. There were performances by  Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Carrie Underwood just to name a few. I can’t forget the celebratory  awards which started with Taylor Swift grabbing the “Woman of the Year,” honor. After Jordin Sparks and John Legend paid a tribute to Whitney Houston, she received the Millenium Award and later in the show, Stevie Wonder was honored with the Billboard Icon Award.

The CW Changes Around Schedule for 2012-2013

The CW Upronts were today and particularly this time of the year is special because networks finally narrowed down their programs that they feel are either good enough to come back or are good enough to sustain or in some cases gain success. Typically quite a few stars show up from some of the networks’ top shows and also the newcomers show up as well. At the CW Upronts, four of their original programming which includes 90210, Hart of Dixie, Supernatural, and ANTM are moving to new nights while another three are moving to new times. The network is banking on original programming to increase their success. I am really excited for the new season of Supernatural and that will lead me to check out the new series, Arrow since it precedes Supernatural. If you enjoy Blake Lively and Leighton Meester among others a part of the ensemble cast of Gossip Girls, you’ll be sad knowing that this fall will host the sixth and final season. Here is what the schedule looks like for the 12-13 season:

Demi Lovato to Join X-Factor

Demi Lovato, once known mostly for her acting career on Disney will now be known as one of the newest judges on Simon Cowell’s “X-Factor”. Demi is expected to join Britney Spears as the newcomers expected to replace Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger. These two are an interesting choice for the second season of X-Factor” for it seems like they are looking to gravitate towards a young audience by bringing in artists who have not only appealed to teens and young adults, but who have also had their personal problems documented in the public. The announcement is expected today at the Upfronts for Fox, and I’m curious to see how this plays out in the second season. It will make me tune in just to see if Demi and Britney can make this work on live tv.

Mayweather vs Cotto

The event of this past weekend was the anticipated fight between Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr and Miguel Cotto. The big fight was preceded by Saul Canelo Alvarez and future hall of famer Shane Mosley in which the former landed hard hitting shots throughout all twelve rounds to secure a unanimous decision against the veteran. The judges in the main event fight scored in a way that made it seem like it was a blowout victory for Mayweather but the fight was much closer than what the score indicated. Overall it was a very competitive fight as Cotto pushed Mayweather to the brink only for Mayweather to show that he can still move up in weight and still be victorious with his defensive prowess. If you missed out on the fight, then you missed out on a very good boxing Saturday as Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr defeated Miguel Cotto to become the new WBA Super Welterweight champion in what was one of the toughest fights of his career. There is no word yet on if there will be a rematch.
