Over the weekend we had two fights on HBO including the main event with Andre Berto losing to Victor Ortiz by unanimous decision. One thing that I want to point out is the fact that Floyd Mayweather was in attendance. Mayweather has received a ton of backlash for his alleged “dodging” of Manny Pacquiao and other various antics. I have a lot of love and respect for Floyd despite all of the accusations against him whether boxing related or not. I am here to present my list of five guys that I would personally like to see Floyd fight. I could be bias but I feel that some of these fighters could even be used as tune-up fights but I am in no way disrespecting the talent of these guys. If Floyd can somehow get through his legal woes, here are some guys that I would like Floyd to face.
5. Amir Khan (25-1)
Amir just came off a good victory this past weekend and is set to fight Timothy Bradley this summer in what will be a big match for the both of them. I could see Mayweather handling Khan easily despite the fact that I believe both Khan and Bradley will put on a clinic sometime this July.
4. Timothy Bradley (27-0)
I wasn’t too thrilled in his fight with Devon Alexander but Timothy can definitely attack and attack strong. He would be a good competitor for Floyd. One thing I noticed about this guy is that he has a tendency to let his head get into the way literally. Just like the guy above, I believe Mayweather’s counter punching would secure a victory.
3. Miguel Cotto (36-2)
This guy and the next two boxers on the list are guys that I feel Floyd could go to war with.We start with Miguel Cotto who recently defeated Ricardo Mayorga and now has his eyes set on a rematch with Antonio Margarito later this year. If Cotto loses then technically he shouldn’t be on this list, but if he wins and or wins decisively then he would be a big money fight for Mayweather.
2. Victor Ortiz (29-2-2)
Unlike the other boxers talked about, this guy is on a comeback trail after suffering major defeat at the hands of Maidana. Floyd was in attendance and knows what he can get out of this guy. Ortiz is right handed but packs most of his power in his left and that is a tough test for Floyd.
1. Manny Pacquaio (52-3-2)
Manny is just the logical choice. One of the biggest fights of all-time. Not much more I can say about a potential Mayweather-Pacquaio fight. The funny thing about it is that Floyd, if he decides to put all of his skills together, could defeat Pacquiao. Maybe we’ll never find out with any of these matchups.
Here is just a shortlist of guys. Who would you like to see Mayweather fight?
