If you hadn’t binge-watched Orange Is The New Black yet, then what are you waiting for? Season 2 of the Netflix hit series saw Kimiko Glenn come in as the character, Brook Soso. Blended Entertainment had the privilege of interviewing Kimiko. Enjoy this interview and don’t forget to follow me on Twitter @BlendedEnt. You can always suggest who you’d like to see me interview next.

You talked about portraying these sort of asexual characters. So having to now simulate a scene in which sexual pleasure is being displayed must have been shocking. How did you mentally prep for your scene of simulating sex on screen?

There’s no real way to prepare yourself for something like a sex scene! I went into it very much like, “Oh God. What is this going to be like? Will I be so concerned with the logistics of the “sex” that I will forget to act? Will they make me do it a million times?? Oh God!!” But on the day of shooting it was very much a safe environment — it was a closed set — and Lisa Vinnecour, our executive producer, made it clear that I wasn’t about to do anything I wasn’t comfortable with. It wasn’t so bad!

In terms of preparing for that nude scene in which you are with Natasha Lyonne, how long did the filming process take?

It was very quick. I think no one wanted me to feel uncomfortable, they knew I was a newbie, so it was just a few takes, maybe a few shots and we were done!

What was it like on set filming for season 2? Were things going on in the background as filming was taking place? If you weren’t in a scene for a day, were you still on set?

It was a blast!! We have a great time together, but it is typically pretty focused. I am only called to set if I have a scene to shoot. I’ve never really popped in just for the heck of it. Maybe I will, if I’m ever in the neighborhood.

As far as season 3 is concerned, how far along are you all into the creative process? How is the atmosphere different from when you first came on for season 2?

We are working our butts off to make season 3 amazing! When I got cast in the show, season 1 had just come out and people were really digging it. I knew I was doing a hit series, but after season 2 aired, it is clear that we are part of a phenomenon. I think that is definitely felt on set and we are all so grateful and incredibly HAPPY to be working on such a groundbreaking, exciting, well-written show.

For OITNB, how did you go about getting the role? Did this involve any auditioning? Was the casting call specifically looking for an Asian actress?

I received an appointment for an audition through my agents. It was a relatively quick turnaround. I got the audition late in the day, read a few scenes with Jen Euston the next morning, got the call the following afternoon, and was on set at 6 a.m. the next day! I had never experienced anything quite like it. The breakdown for the role was pretty open at that point. I knew friends of all different ethnicities who went in for it as well.

Knowing that you did spend a little bit of time in my home city of Boston excites me. Did you get any time to enjoy the city? Did you notice any differences between Boston and Phoenix?

I love Boston! I did explore while I was there, but I was mainly preoccupied with school. Boston and Phoenix (my hometown) are wildly different; namely, the weather! Also, I never had to drive in Boston… I always walked or took the T. That is something you could never do in Phoenix. You need a car.

Seeing that you attended The Boston Conservatory, it is safe to say that you sort of always wanted to act. Was there a moment that made you say that you wanted to try out theater? Was acting a way of your parents just wanting to keep you busy?

I always loved performing from when I was a kid. I feel like I was never not performing. It was just something I naturally did and my parents just guided me there. They were always extremely supportive!

People have asked you plenty of times if you talked as much as Brook. With that being said, how would you describe yourself in terms of your personality and character?

I definitely don’t talk as much as Brook!! I am pretty shy at heart and it takes me a while to get to know someone to where I can talk a lot. That being said, I understand Brook in a lot of ways. I am very into natural health and wellness, and some would say I have hippie qualities. But I would not be as extreme as to live in a tree for extended periods of time.

We know that Brook is in prison because of some form of political protest. Do you ever come up with ideas in your head with what she was protesting and how she went about it? She was willing to starve herself so it seems she could definitely go to an extreme.

I used to make up ideas in my head about what she might have done or what happened with Meadow, but as I got the scripts every other week, I realized it was completely futile. The beauty of television is that information is revealed episode to episode, and the actor learns kind of with the audience in a way. The writers are incredible, they have a grand plan, and I grew to trust that.

Has your goals as an actress changed since joining the cast of OITNB, especially after seeing how highly regarded your character and this series is?

Well, thank you!! Nothing really has changed in regard to my goals. I’ve always, always, always wanted to be on Broadway. That is an absolute dream of mine. I started out on stage as a singer, and it has transitioned over the years to be more concentrated in acting. I never thought I would be in movies or television. It never really crossed my mind until I moved to NYC about 4 years ago! So I guess, if anything, I now see myself doing more on-camera work.

Is there a particular character(s) who you would want Brook to develop a strong bond with? Share more scenes with? Brook needs a partner in crime.

I think Brook needs to have more scenes with Yoga Jones! I am close with Connie off-set and I think it would only make sense for Brook to be bestie’s with a yogi!

Thank you Kimiko for this interview. Is there anything you would like to say to your fans and our readers? How can fans and readers find and interact with you?

Thank you so so so much for all your support and love!! It is because of YOU that we are able to do what we love and I can’t be more thankful! Please follow me on twitter @KimikoGlenn and instagram @ohlittleasianone! I love you all!!!

Interview w/ Tamara Duarte

She stars in Hard Rock Medical and have had roles in Wingin It, Warehouse 13, and Degrassi. Check out this interview with the Actress/Producer  Tamara Duarte, all the way from Toronto, Canada.

You star in Hard Rock Medical, can you talk about your character, this series, and perhaps the future of the series?

The series focuses principally on a core group of eight medical students at Boréal Medical School in Sudbury. The students are learning both a traditional medical curriculum, and how to cope with the unique demands of the school’s focus on rural medicine. And boy are they unique! We are planning to do a second series soon which I am very excited about.

How did you end up with the role as Gina?

Well… I put my audition on tape! I was told after by the creators of the show that I was the first tape they saw for Gina and my performance stuck to them. Then I went into the TVO building in Toronto (In blue scrubs lol) and did my second audition this time in person. My agent called me and said they loved me and to come in and do a chemistry read with two other characters, Mel and Cameron… but to not wear scrubs …just normal clothes. So I went in for the third and final audition. And it went so well!

What has been your favorite project to work on?

To date? Id say HRM… they are family to me.

Which tv series past or present could you envision yourself being a part of, and what type of character would you or would you have portrayed?

I would have loved to be on Seinfeld and Friends. But currently… I’m loving period pieces right now like Game of Thrones, the Tudors, and Reign. Also, a bad ass funny character in “Orange is The New Black” or Weeds.. Also, a super analytical character that belongs on Homeland. That’s a broad range but that’s exactly what I am.

Some of my readers are familiar with you through your role in Degrassi as Charlie, a very brief love interest of Annie Clark’s Fiona Coyne in Degrassi. How was that experience and do you keep in touch with any of the cast members?

Everyone at Degrassi is so lovely and welcoming… and yes one of my best friends is Shannon Kook who I actually worked with before Degrassi as well.

Are you working on any upcoming projects? What is your role with them?

I’m writing right now and working on the development of my own projects. I think being a storyteller involves many facets of my… being. Performing is the vastest, but writing and developing stories is also a part of who I am and I have been neglecting those parts for a while because of fear. So I thought lets analyze this closely this thing that is “Fear”. And I came up a lot of reasons why I cant and shouldn’t and wont and bla bla bla… but these are just REASONS and I am not on this planet to live a reasonable life but a fully expressed one.. so I started writing…

What have you learned about yourself throughout your time auditioning, training, and acting?

My most important lesson I have learn is….doing. Just do it. It leaves no space for worry or reason. Get on the court and play the game.

You’re very involved with yoga, can you talk a bit about your practice of yoga? How old were you, and what has it done for you as a person?

Yoga is a moving mediation for me and I have very HIGH levels of energy at all times of the day. Sitting still wasn’t my strong suit, that said “strong suits” have their constraints. I want to master being fluid and not attached to parts of myself that I think I am or am not. So simply… it allows me to sit still and focus. I started 6 years ago.

Can you talk a bit about what your experience as a producer, and where you hope to go with that ability?

I went to school for Business Marketing and I was very lucky to be able to exercise that those parts of myself as a producer and will continue to do so. I always strive to be the most well rounded person I can be.

This is the Blended part of the interview where fans and readers can get to know you the person a bit more with some laid-back questions.

Color that most reflects your personality is?

Right now in this very moment id say Purple… yesterday was yellow.

Favorite Food?

Fish tacos and coconut cake from toast bakery

Most embarrassing moment is?

Wow take me back to grade school… I wasn’t a great reader as a child and reading out loud terrified me. So during class I would try then stutter, say words wrong, and stop reading. Kids would laugh, so eventually I stopped reading out loud! I remember being made fun of during lunch break and kids asking me to say the alphabet out loud. Total downer.. sorry guys lol.

Last song you listened to?

John Legend – made to love

I want to thank you Tamara for taking the time for this interview, do you have any last comments you want to say to your supporters, and the readers?

Thank you for taking your time to get to know me just a little better.

Floyd Mayweather Jr Fight Options

I don’t write too many opinion pieces but when I do, I prefer Dos Equis. New Years Day joke aside, I do want to wish everyone a Happy New Years. Whether you already celebrated, am currently celebrating, or recovering from your celebration by the time you read this, be safe. 2013 was a good year for boxing and 2014 could possibly be even better. Floyd Mayweather Jr is one of the more polarizing sports personalities. You either love him or you hate him. I happened to have been following his career for many years. I have posed a few options below and quite the idea for Mayweather’s next three fights. With the self proclaimed moniker “Money”, Floyd is the guy that everyone wants a piece of. I mean even Bernard Hopkins who fights at a weight of 175 lbs to that of 147 lbs for Mayweather. Here are my options for Floyd come 2014.

May 2014 (Amir Khan) – This one is currently being speculated  and Amir is the leading candidate for Mayweather thus far. Khan has tremendous speed in his hands and although this is a fight that has its fair share of doubters due to Khan’s popularity here in the states along with his recent fight history,  he does present a challenge to Mayweather  and Floyd would have to adjust to a fighter who may be just as fast if not faster at this stage of his career. Khan is a popular U.K boxer and typically Floyd would use Cinco de Mayo weekend to fight a boxer with roots in spanish speaking countries.

September 2014 (Marcos Maidana) – For the Saturday before Mexican Independence Day why not fight the man who recently defeated your protege Adrien Broner. Maidana is from Argentina, which is the largest spanish speaking nation in Latin America. This fight would now sell for multiple reasons. Marcos Maidana‘s fighting style, culture, recent beating of Broner, and confidence to do the same to Floyd  would sell this fight. Floyd seeking vengeance, or perhaps just proving that there is only one “Money” Mayweather is all he’ll need to bring to the fight. Mayweather knows how to sell. Originally I had a rematch with Miguel Cotto but he could possibly be in a fight in June which would more than likely prevent him from fighting just three months later.

January 31, 2015 (Manny Pacquaio) – Although this comes off as a typical list, this fight for January hypothetically would have major implications. January 31st is the Saturday right before the Super Bowl and marketing 101 tells you that a huge boxing match featuring a “still” undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr going up against his court of public opinion’s appointed rival would be associated with the Super Bowl somehow directly. Though it would be a blockbuster fight in January of all months, a PPV of this magnitude during Super Bowl weekend would be unprecedented and generate a ton of money. Another aspect to a potential fight could be that it takes place on CBS instead of Showtime PPV. With the Super Bowl taking place on NBC, what a way to not only market successfully in accordance with the Super Bowl, but while also creating a boxing Super Bowl that possesses the ability to buy commercial time. In 2015, the NFL Super Bowl will be taking place in the desert of Arizona, while this fight should take place within the desert of Nevada. There could be a few similarities between a potential fight on the Saturday before the Super Bowl, and the Super Bowl itself. I could also see a potential fight in January belonging to Amir Khan over in England as the NFL is establishing their brand a lot more within London.

Once again, the ideas above are all opinion and these are not guaranteed Floyd Mayweather Jr fights nor do I have any knowledge of  the boxers that he and his camp are thinking about.

Welcome again for another artist spotlight. This time let me introduce you to Richie Wess.

Born in QUEENS, NY Richie Wess moved to TAMPA, FL where he would begin starting his young career with his cousin DJ Spinatik. Wess was influenced by Run DMC, at an early age. His father produced many music videos for Russell Simmons Def Jam in the early eighties and Wess took a liking to the music and the business.

At 4 years-old he played in an urban movie as the lead’s son in “The Last Boxer”. At 6, he was performing for his family and friends, and by 10 years-old Richie Wess started to write down his ideas and started rapping to friends and family members, then later entered into rap battles in the streets and school.

The word was out that he was up next. From March – May 2003 he was performing as the Opening Act with the “Def Jam Vendetta Tour 2003” with Joe Budden, Method Man, Capone & Nore in Tampa, Orlando and Jacksonville. He also was the opening act for Lil Jon & The Eastside Boyz and later that year dropped his 1st album at only 15.

Now he’s the CEO of YTC Entertainment Group along with Yung Dred, his younger brother. YTC Entertainment has been independent for the last 3 years releasing such singles as “Shawty Is A Freak” Ft. Sammie & Yung Dred which peaked at #65 on Billboards Urban Top 100 in 2011.

You probably heard Richie Wess in the streets, on one of his many collaborations with Lil Boosie, Gucci Mane, 2 Pistols, Brisco, Smitty and The Game. Richie Wess is heavy in the mixtape circuit  and has dropped 8 mixtapes with DJ Spinatik. He is now ready to take over the airwaves once again with his **New Single** “Put it Down” Ft.
