One look at her IMDB profile and you can see that Mindy Robinson is one of the busiest actresses you’ve probably ever have seen. If you ever think about messing with her, she’ll kick your butt. If she doesn’t want to do the honors, then Expendables 3 and Gym Rescue star, Randy Couture may like to. So fortunately for me, I’m a respectful guy. So hope you enjoy this interview with the indie star.
You grew up in Fall River, I’m from Boston. Do you hate when you tell people you’re from Mass, and they automatically assume Boston? What was life like growing up for you?
I’ve learned to just say “Rhode Island” since my hometown is on the border and that’s closer to my natural accent. If I say “New England” they usually will just ask if I’m a Patriots fan, or just not generally know where it is. I’m proud to be from a blue collar working town though, I’ve carried that work ethic all my life.
How did you get involved in acting?
I was visiting a set for the first time and they asked me to replace an actress they had to fire. I kind of ran with it after that.
What is your favorite type of movie to have a role in? What do you like most about working in that type of genre?
I love comedies. Horror movies are cool because of all the effects…but there’s something super cool about hearing the whole audience laugh at your performance.
Who inspires you as an actress?
Goldie Hawn. She never thought she had to play down her looks to be a comedic actor…she just pulls it off.
You’ve done some topless scenes and have done a lot of roles as the “hot chick”. Was there a point where you ever were uncomfortable with these scenes?
I’m a fairly liberal actress, but I have turned down roles where I didn’t like the context of the nudity. It should be funny or sexy, never demeaning or uncomfortable. It got my foot in a lot of doors, but it’s really only a fraction of what I do.
You’ve been in a ton of projects and seem to have many more that have been filmed or are currently in production. Do you take pride in the fact you have a lot of projects?
The biggest compliment is to be asked back to a production and/or to come recommended by your peers. Anyone can luck out here and there, but you have to legitimately be talented and easy to work with to stay a full time working actor.
What is your take on deciding the types of projects that you will take?
I’m always analyzing the pros and cons of projects on my table. It’s something an actor should always decide on for themselves.
You were bullied growing up. Can you talk about bullying and how it has impacted you? What advice would you give to anyone out there who is experiencing this?
I was heavily bullied for being buck toothed and ugly as a kid. I can’t even complain about it though because it taught me to just not give a f**k what haters had to say about me…they really just hate themselves and you can’t let them drag you down with them.
What was the best experience you’ve had on set? What was the worst?
I’ve done over 100 projects and it’s almost always a blast. Sh*t’s always going to happen. You’ve got to learn to make the best of it or make fun of it, or something lol.
You have a lot of reality tv credits. What do you like about doing reality tv?
Whether it’s real or set up, it’s all improv which I love. Actors are told to stay away from reality TV, but it was a fun way for me to get exposure and to build a fan base. I already had several acting credits before any of the reality shows aired. Being an actor on a reality show is different than a reality star trying to be an actor.
What advice would you give to a young aspiring actor/actress?
Don’t ever listen to advice, not even mine. 😉
Thank you Mindy for your time. Would like to say anything to your fans, to the readers out there that we didn’t touch upon?
As an indie actress, I owe a ton of my success to all the support I’ve gotten through my fans and all the social media outlets. Thank you for all the tweets, and love you guys have shown to this nerdy little actress.
As for Mindy, she is currently filming season 3 of TBS’s King of the Nerds. Casting Couch, Alpha House, The Coed and the Zombie Stoner are available on Netflix now.
